My favorite dogs

I adore dogs! Ever since I was a young child, I could not get enough of loving each and every pooch I came across. I would always become shy when asking strangers if I could pet their dog, but I quickly overcame that shyness because there were puppies that needed loving. I was never able to own a dog of my own. Despite that, I still love dogs with all my heart.

Irish Wolfhound

The Irish Wolfhound is a recent discovery for me. I prefer medium sized dogs for the most part, that is until I learned about this gentle giant. Irish Wolfhounds aren't necessarily the prettiest breed, but their big hearts and kind spirits more than make up for it. This dog is also special to me as I am an Irish Dancer with some Irish ancestors. It's like having a bit of my family's history in a very furry friend.

Siberian Husky

Siberian Huskies are beautiful creatures. They are brave and adventurous with unique ways of showing their love. I'm always fascinated by the different ways huskies behave. I've seen various personalities, from sweet to grumpily caring to mean to over excitedly crazy. Most of all, however, I love how they are pack animals. If they consider something or someone to be part of their family, they will protect it with all of their might.

Border Collies are amazing dogs. They are kind and hardworking, focused and attentive. I love the way these dogs herd everything around them, from sheep to other pets to even their owners. I think they really remind me of my grandpa and my favorite location. My grandpa grew up on a farm in Wayne County, Utah. Now, our family visits it often as a place to rest, play, and visit with each other. The farm is my favorite place to visit as it's so peaceful and beautiful there. One day I hope to live on my own farm with all sorts of crops and animals, border collies and all.

Personal image: Buckley the Corgi, July 6, 2019

About a year ago, I started working occasional jobs as a house sitter. This means that I would go to someone's house to watch and take care of it while they were away on a trip. Buckley was the sweet Corgi of a close family friend named Leia. I would get to play with him every time I house sat for her. Buckley was a funny dog. He had the classic short legs and chubby body of a Corgi that would make him waddle every time he walked. He loved snuggles, pets, sitting in the sun, and playing ball. Strangely enough, he also loved to sit on my hair every time I laid down. He was kind and always excited to see me every time I visited.

I also house sat for my sister-in-law's family. They have two Golden Retrievers named Aspen and Ray. Aspen is old but kind and used to dealing with people. Ray is still pretty young and easily excited. She's still learning not to jump on people all the time. These two always manage to bring a smile to my face. You can almost taste the pure love they feel for everyone.

Personal Image: Jasmine the Beagle

Jasmine was the closest I've every been to owning a dog. My uncle was unable to keep her at his home, so she stayed at my grandpa's house. Since we live really close we would always visit and I would play with Jasmine the entire time we were there. She was really kind and patient. We spent every moment together from when I was a small child to my early-preteens when she passed away from old age. From letting me lean on her while I read, to playing tag, to chasing mean ducks away, Jasmine always found a way to protect and help me. This sweet-nature is what I truly love about beagles.

Personal Image: Waylan and Charlene the not-really dogs

These two get an honorary mention as they acted like dogs most of the time. Waylan and Charlene were show lambs my brother raised this past year. Waylan was easily frightened while Charlene was stubborn as a mule. They'd chew on anything they could get their hands on- mainly my shoelaces, shirt, and fingers- and would about run you over when it was feeding time. Charlene would jump up and hook her legs over the fence when she really wanted attention and they both fought over who got pets. It's interesting how we see similar traits and behaviors in animals from entirely different species.
